The Gallery is proud to feature a continuous exhibition of very fine metal sculptures from Haiti. These sculptures, probably the most distinctively Caribbean artwork made, are created from recycled oil drums. The artisans work with a variety of tools, creating imagery from Haitian mythology and religion, as well as from everyday country life. We feature the works of Serge Jolimeau, Jonas Balan, Romel Balan, Joel Balan and Eugene Jacques. Please let us know if we may send you digital photos of sculptures currently available.

Victor Hempel is a remarkable artist, living, working and creating his sculptures on his 30' sloop "Ayisha", while travelling throughout the Caribbean. This South African-born artist finds woods on the beaches and roads of his travels, creating these superb creations. I met him while he was walking by the gallery, peering in at the gallery's collection of Haitian metal sculptures!

Jo-Anne Mason, American-born, has lived on Anguilla for about 20 years now. She's enormously talented in many artistic media, with these botannical drawings being her latest foray. Ten years ago, Savannah Gallery was proud to exhibit computer-generated prints by Ms. Mason, created with a first generaton Wacom Pad. She has also painted superb watercolours and canvasses through the years, including architectural "portraits" of buildings ringing the shores of Anguilla - her "Edge of the Island" series. The botannical drawings stem from hiking the Island, observing nature with an artist's "eye".

Eclectic and intuitive works in a variety of media Janet's manner of working is eclectic and intuitive, strongly influenced by the metal works of the late American sculptor Richard Stankiewicz. His well-known pieces, although abstract, ultimately referred back to nature or people. Janet felt a strong sense of freedom of expression as she worked as a sculptor, but a deep love of colour and the sensuous quality of paint continually drew her back to this traditional medium. She has resided in St. John since 1969, continually absorbing the intense beauty of the island's colour and culture as shown in the unique and original works of the natural and native landscape. Janet has exhibited extensively in the U.S. Virgin Islands, France, Germany, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic and her pieces are part of numerous private collections at home and abroad
