As many of you know, I am extremely enthusiastic about the painting of Haitian-born painter, Waking Jean-Baptiste. Waking is living and working in Paris, and sent me this new work, which arrived today. His palette is brightening, and his work is evolving beautifully. This painting is larger than the ones currenly in the gallery, 12 x 30″. A real gem!
Thuleau was kind enough to come over on the ferry this morning from St. Martin – he needed a painting of the gallery’s for a client, and also brought
with him this new, quite remarkable painting, “Deux Chaises – Haiti” (Two Chairs – Haiti). It’s a beautiful new work, using a rather different pallete than in past works. The colours and shadows are calm and mellow, and the dark enigmatic interior makes one wonder.
I really like the new works by Kari Matz, the New York-based painter, which the gallery has just received and hung. They’re small and
powerful canvasses, with a wonderful quirkiness that pleases me. This painting, “Conch” might be my favourite – I’ll have to wait and see…….. All her work can be seen by clicking on “Artists”, then on “Kari Matz”
I was in the gallery doing some photography today, and decided to head down to DaVida, my neighbour, for some lunch. I’ve been a few times over the last little while, and am always pleased. Great food and delightful staff…. Ribs were done pefectly and hit the spot, as did the rum punches. I
was happy to see live music was setting up, and was then astounded by the remakable quality of this new band, “True Intentions”. I was told it was comprised of band members from “British Depedency”, and lead vocals were superbly sung by Vanessa Croft. They are playing on Sunday afternoons at DaVida from 1 through 5, and really worth a visit!
