I’m sad to see a wonderful collector of Caribbean art sell her home here on Anguilla – she’s a terrific lady with a very fine “eye”. The works in her home and being sold slowly, and five very fine Haitian paintings from the l990’s are currently hanging in Savannah Gallery. The works are a diverse group, and dispel the notion that there is such a thing as a “typical Haitian painting”. Vital Setalaire Albert’s work reminds me of some mid-20th century European painting, while Levoy Exil’s “Loas” depict the spirit world of the vodou faith in the true Saint Soleil style. All are first-rate works, coming from a first-rate collection. As always, to see details on the work, click on the Artists tab at the top of this page, then click on Haitian Paintings.
