I found these two quite lovely Haitian paintings at auction recently. Although the gallery exhibits primarily well-known painters from that genre, I was delighted to bid on and win these two works by relatively unknown artists. The Moise painting is a classic Haitian village scene – remarkably, I can virtually feel the heat from those piles of coals. The Etienne, “River and Hills” has a unique charm, and reminds me of mid-twentieth century American landscape painting.
