I recently hung this quite wonderful painting by Trinidad-based artist, Shastri Maharaj. I bought it during the early days of the gallery, almost 20 years ago, and still love it. Maharaj’s works are influenced by his Hindu roots, with an emphasis on mythology. He lives and works in Chaguanas, Trinidad, and teaches visual art at the Valsayn Teachers College. This painting, 18 x 24″, is titled “Homage”. The painterly qualities of the background and the women’s dresses are SO beautiful.
