M.C. Escher (1898-1972) was a Dutch artist, working as a draftsman, tapestry designer, muralist and book illustrator, who’s best known at a printmaker. The St. Martin based marquetry master, Jean-Pierre Straub, has recently interpreted Escher’s 1945 lithograph, “The Balcony” – continuing the esploration of perspective and physical space of the original work. It’s an amazing new addition to the gallery – it’s certainly stopping people in their tracks as they stroll through!
